The recreation features many of the original maps and all of the original weapons and characters – all recreated on the Source engine with newer 3D models. The best part is that the development team’s primary focus was to recreate the original as closely as possible “to bring the memories and experiences from the original GoldenEye64 back to life.” I’d say they nailed it. The best part about it isn’t that it is free or on a modern game engine. It’s a mod for Valve’s Source Orange Box engine – the engine that runs Half-life 2. It’s called Goldeneye Source and it is free. Yes, that’s right, Goldeneye from the N64 was remade on the PC!
I feel the need to write this article because every time I talk to someone about the classically popular game on the N64, Goldeneye, and then mention that it was remade on the PC their eyes bug out of their head.
